Owl Cookies

While surfing the net, I found (just) a picture of owl shaped cookie, on flickr.com and was impressed with the shape and start visualizing the making process.  Got an idea and implemented.

I’m happy with the outcome and thought of sharing with you.

It’s basically the shortbread cookie (biscuit) but, shaped as an Owl.  As you may know, shortbread’s key ingredients are Sugar, Butter and All Purpose Flour. Usually, shortbread cookie has high fat content. But, don’t worry, this one is a healthy version (ingredients modified). Shortbread is so named because of its crumbly texture.

The ingredients required are   ½ cup of all purpose flour     ;   ½ cup of wheat flour    ;   ½ cup of (115 g) of butter (soften)    ;   ¼ cup of sugar     ;    1 tsp  of  vanilla essence    ;     some of Semi sweet chocolate (for the Owl eyes)       ;    Few Almond  (chopped into two halves for nose)

Beat butter with sugar till it turns into pale in color and add vanilla essence.

Mix both wheat flour and flour in separate bowl and slowly add the flour mixture to the butter, Blend well till the flour and butter combined well.

Shape the dough into ball shape and cover it with cling wrap. Keep it in the fridge for about 30 min

Roll the dough on the floured surface for 1 cm thickness and using the 2’’ circle shaped cookie cutter cut in to pieces. – Here the cookie is ready.

Now let’s make the Owl from the Normal Cookie. First the eyes…..stick (firmly pressing) the peas sized dough on cookie (If required mildly wet the dough, usually not required) and insert the chocolate chips in to it.

Now the Nose, using the knife make a slit on the cookie, and insert the halved almond into it.

Last, the legs of the Owl. Just use the fork to make the impression on the cookie. – That’s it.

Transfer all the Owls into a baking tray keep it in the fridge for about 20 min. Then, bake it in a pre-heated oven at 180°c till cookies are done

Owls are perfect to impress the kids.
